What the fuck is with the spam!?! I'm not talking about "booger" posting links to his own porn sites - that is more like "promoting". I'm talking about all the fucking foreign, non-English speaking, cut'n'pasteing ass-holes who post 100+ links (to stupid shit no body wants) on just one post! I know that "pkinsella" does his/her best to get rid of it - but it is very annoying and just fucking ugly. Can't something be done about it?

Edit- Also, if you want to reduce spam make it so guests can't post. Then you can ban them if they spam so they won't do it more than once.

I just got done "prunning" the "Spam links and stupid shit" forum. There was a total of 346 threads with 1019 post on them! Many of them have been visited hundreds of times - presumably by bots and spammers as I can't see many real people would spend that much time reading about "ViAgrA 4or w0mEn". So anyway I deleted most of those.

I used to run a game forum with something like 100 real members.
Forbiding guests from posting is a great way to reduce spam. And I don't think it would decrease the number of good posts, since it doesn't hurt so bad to spend 1 minute to register.

Most of the spam is not from guests. It is from members. Right now we have "248 registered users". But less then 25 are "real" people - the rest are spammers. I would delete them, but the current system makes it a little hard. Besides - the spam members often just post a few times then they don't come back - so deleting the accounts won't make much difference because they just make new accounts each time.

We have had a surge of non-member spammers spamming the heck out of the "Public" forums at the top. We were averging about 2 or 3 an hour. So I've made all forums into "member forums" (except for the "Spam and Stupid Shit" forum. Fucking spammers!

I run (admin) two forums and mod three others and have my share of problems. It seems this forum needs some help with daytime moderation and the filters need to be adjusted. Lose .de and .ru and some others and you will get rid of 90+% of them. If you can't or don't know how to do this let me know. I believe I can help.

Agreed. Isn't there a forum for forums out there you can go to for advice on this?

I've contacted my host today and they will call me back tomorrow so that we can talk about downloading a mod that will, hopefully, solve this problem. We might also be able to change the icon at the top of the page to something else more interesting then the default PHPBB icon/logo-thingy.
